Dear Readers,
I was so inspired by the Julia Childs Movie that I am including recipes in this Portland part of the blog. Saw THE movie last Friday and then were treated to a chef in the Lobby making Beef Bourguignon. We had a Hamburger at South Park.

A big Saturday. Went to a drawing demonstration at the Portland Art Museum. Then later to the wedding of Jennifer and Marcus who we had just met Wed. evening at the neighborhood dinner at SubRosa's.
The wedding was held on the street and sidewalk of their house with the street blocked off.Nicole and Garrison who sat at our table gave me their Sunday morning breakfast recipe:

APPLE DUTCH BABY
Preheat oven 425
MIX
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
4 eggs
dash of vanilla and almond extract
SAUTE
6 tablsp. butter
2 or 3 peeled sliced tasty apples (not green Grannys)
cinnamon/sugar
Grease or spray Pam on 2 pie plates
POUR in batter then apples
Bake 15 - 16 minutes
Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Nicole and Garrison have been together 6 years and usually have this on Sunday mornings and look very happy together.
After wedding we went to Bill's Pig Roast

PIG1 large dead pig
skewer on a large rented electrified spit
turn on in morning
baste
Remove at 6 PM and have a friend slice it up
Have other friends bring other food and wine and beer and sodas and musical instruments
CLOSE OFF STREET AND INVITE ALL THE NEIGHBORS

SUNDAY we drove with friends (Jim and Marty) through the Tuscany-like countryside, about an hour out of Portland, to the Cana Winery in Carlton. Had an exquisite meal of food grown by the winery people. Also had two bottles of $30 red wine There is a difference between $10 wine and $30 wine. I always wondered what the $50 wine tastes like. Marty gave me her breakfast recipe for that morning.
MARTY'S BREAKFAST
CHOP:
Fresh from your garden tomatoes
Walla Walla onions
Garlic
Add any herbs you like
Salt and Pepper
Mix with really great oil....she used walnut oil
Let sit for a while then if you want, add mozarella cheese
For protein buffs soft boiled eggs can be layered on top
Eat with good toasted bread

There's more to tell but I will hold back until the next Entry. Right now while Penny is at her exercise class, I'm here at Costello's drinking coffee and eating pastry. ciao.....oops....I forgot, I'm not in Italy anymore but once a week they have Italian conversation night here at Costellos.
My mouth is watering from the recipes and the wine-talk.
